Sam & Bill's Hair Design has been turning heads in the Triangle for over 50 years. Our Raleigh hair salon, located in a charming 90-year-old restored home, provides a warm and inviting atmosphere featuring hardwood floors, fireplaces, and a coffee bar for your comfort. Our convenient location, beside The Village District in the heart of Raleigh, allows easy access to downtown Raleigh, inside the beltline, Hillsborough Street, NC State University, The Village District, and Crabtree Valley.

Our Story

Founded in 1969 by Sam Giddens and Billy Turner, Sam & Bill's Hair Design began as a small barbershop with four chairs on Hillsborough Street. In 1981, the duo secured the house at 109 Oberlin Rd. and began renovations to accommodate nine workstations and a lobby area, expanding their services to include a range of hair design techniques for both men and women. In 2003, Greg Brown and Sandy took ownership, bringing their unique skills and passion for the beauty industry to the salon. Today, Sam & Bill's Hair Design continues the legacy of excellence, providing the latest techniques in hair designs while maintaining the charm and character of the original salon.

Meet the Owners

Greg and Sandy bring a wealth of experience and expertise to Sam & Bill's Hair Design. Greg, with a background in corporate management, became a licensed cosmetologist after taking ownership of the salon in 2003. Sandy, a former stylist and employee of Sam & Bill's, has been an integral part of the salon's growth and success. Together, they have built a team of talented barbers and stylists dedicated to providing exceptional service and quality results.

Sammy Giddens, one of the founding partners, retired in 2007 to his farm in Sampson County, where he and his wife, Nida, enjoy raising and training dogs for field competitions. Billy Turner, the other founding partner, retired in 2003 and now resides in Myrtle Beach, where he enjoys golfing and staying connected with his clients and friends.
