Celebrating over 40 years of stellar service in downtown Minneapolis, Avant has been a pioneer in the beauty industry. Founded by Harvey Freund, Thomas Schmiedlin, and Mick Freund in 1976, the salon has been dedicated to providing exceptional service, innovative techniques, and an unparalleled client experience.

Our Philosophy and Foundation

Our founders, Mick and Tom, started their journey as barbers in the early 1970s, which gave them a strong foundation in haircutting. They took their skills and expertise to Europe to learn the European approach to women's hair design. They studied at the Vidal Sassoon Academy in London and in Paris to learn the French technique. Over the years, they evolved these techniques into a unique system that combines expression and precision, creating the signature "Avant Look."
